Here is where Destin stands two weeks after Hurricane Isaias, and what is on around town this weekend.

What Isaias did

  • Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin around 8:30 PM Central on Friday, October 9, as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. [1]
  • Storm surge reached 3.68 feet at East Pass in Destin, with beach erosion along the Okaloosa County coast. [1]
  • Rain totals were 5 to 8 inches across the area, and 11.65 inches near Mary Esther. [1]

Where things stand

  • Power is back: by early Tuesday, October 13, only 20 FPL customers in Okaloosa County were still without power. [4]
  • The county began picking up storm debris in unincorporated areas on Wednesday, October 14. Debris goes at the curb, unbagged, and electronics are not accepted. Questions: 1-833-495-3664. [5]
  • Okaloosa County has an online form to report storm damage. [6]

This weekend

  • The National Weather Service expects a high risk of rip currents at the beaches from Saturday through Sunday night. [7]
  • It also expects dry weather to continue, and warns that strong northeast winds may make conditions hazardous for small boats from Friday night into Monday morning. [7]
  • The Destin Fishing Rodeo runs through October 31. [8]
  • Trick or Treat Street is on Saturday, October 31, from 6 to 8 pm at the Village of Baytowne Wharf, with fireworks at 8 pm. [9]
